Gayla James is a Contemporary, Jazz, Urban Gospel recording artist out of Fort Myers, Florida.
James has utilized her vocal chords since her toddler years. “I have been singing since the young age of 3, my grandmother started me out in the youth choir”.
Beginning as a singer in the youth choir James says she listened to a variety of music genres growing up but Gospel is where she’s dedicated as a musician. “Although I grew up listening to r&b, pop , country, my roots is gospel music, it’s all I know, its real and it brings out my deepest feelings”.
Gayla lost her daughter in 1992 and her album “Broken” is her testimony of the emotional pain she suffered on the road to healing and coping with her devastating lost. The song and album entitled “Broken” both symbolize her feelings after living through horrific event.
James’s album is filled with uplifting Gospel music that can help heal and encourage any soul.
James also says many artist from different genres have inspired her as an artist. ” Well a lot of artist motivated and inspired me in different genre of music, such as Anita Bakker, Sade, Helen Baylor, Deitrick Haddon, India Arie, The Clark Sisters, and Rance Allen”.
Gayla believes people will be able to relate to her unique style of singing.
“My sound is unique, I believe its out there but with a message that is real and I believe people can relate to my songs, because they tell a testimony. My music speaks about adversity and trials that I’ve been through”.

“People can expect new music in 2013, maybe a few Christmas songs this year, however the Lord blesses [me]. I want to collaborate with major artist on my next album,” Gayla mentioned.
Ms. James says she’s currently preparing her next album, “Right now, there are no special projects, im just working on my 3rd project and letting the Lord lead me in the direction he wants me to go”
